MA, Marriage & Family Therapist Associate
I'm Sophia Jarvis (she/her), a Marriage & Family Therapist Associate. I work with adult individuals and relationship constellations. We'll explore the texture of your world, the shape of your relationships, the questions underneath everything, and the experiences that haunt you. Our time aims to expand your understanding of what it is to be you in the context of the world and your relationships, and create space for deciding how you want to live.
Everyone is welcome here — I bring particular familiarity with: LGBTQIA+ folks, neurodivergent people, consensual nonmonogamy, kink and BDSM, sex work, trauma, meaning-making and spirituality, life transitions, and children of caregivers who didn't know how to care in the way that was needed.
People come to therapy wanting different things — sometimes clarity, sometimes relief, sometimes tools to handle life and relationships, sometimes just to be heard. Whatever you're coming with, I'm here to explore it along with you. I see us as peers wondering together about your experience, noticing what's there, what's emerging, what might not have been clear before. Typically, my style isn't handing out worksheets; we do the strength training and stretching together, becoming stronger and more flexible little by little.
My aim is to listen deeply, to stay with you through the best of the best and the worst of the worst. And it goes both ways: I'm affected by the people I work with. I learn from them. The relationship shapes me too.
I support adults and relationship constellations navigating trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, identity and gender exploration, life transitions, self-esteem, boundaries, people-pleasing, and relationship challenges — including polyamorous and open relationships, intimacy, codependency, and communication. I also provide gender-affirming care letters.
My clinical orientation is existential therapy. I'm trained in EMDR and Flash Technique, draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy in my work with couples and relational clients, and find inspiration in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also offer walk-and-talk sessions. Queer theory, intersectional feminism, and trauma-informed care shape how I think about identity, power, and what healing can look like.
People sometimes experience me as put together — internally it's more like mashed potatoes with good scaffolding. I can hold serious things and also want to laugh with you. I like puzzles and wordplay and think in metaphors. I walk the line between direct and gentle. To me, the simple act of two beings relating and trying to understand each other is one of the most meaningful and profound ways of joining the transcendent with the ordinary.
