Hi, I’m Sean Callahan, a Licensed Professional Counselor who loves helping individuals and couples heal the wounds of shame, self-doubt, and lack of belonging that keep us from feeling authentic and at home in our own bodies and relationships.
I help individuals and couples navigate overwhelm, shame, self-identity, and belonging to break patterns that keep them disconnected, lonely, and unsatisfied and help them create more meaningful and authentic relationships and lives. My style of therapy blends deep care, accountability, and humor to balance the vulnerability required to look within ourselves and create change.
I most often work with adults individually and relationally who experience ADHD, identify as queer (or are figuring it out), or are struggling to navigate our culture and society while staying connected to the creative and spiritual aspects of themselves (the stuff that makes us feel alive)! I work particularly well with folks that have a hard time taking up space and valuing their own needs, identify with “caretaking” behaviors, and want to feel empowered to show up as their authentic selves.
I prioritize authenticity in my work (and life in general), which means I bring a blend of attuned presence, warmth, humor, playfulness, deep care, and accountability to our relationship. Through an integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Gestalt therapy, I support you in coming into awareness of your own authentic experience, especially the parts that get pushed away because we learned that they aren’t welcome or safe. I am both direct and gentle throughout this process, giving you the support you need to push yourself a little farther, and deep respect for your “no” and the protective strategies that have kept you safe throughout your life.
I have a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Portland State University. I have level 1 equivalent training in Internal Family Systems therapy from IFS Canada, and additional trainings in IFS for Chronic Pain and Somatic IFS. I continue to receive monthly supervision and consultation in IFS therapy with Beth McGee, a level 3 trained IFS therapist. I attended a year-long course of Gestalt therapy training in Seattle in 2023, and continue to receive monthly training and supervision in Gestalt therapy through Pamela Ganem of Crybaby Counseling in Portland. I also hold a certificate in Trauma Informed Services from Portland State University.
I feel the most connected to myself when I’m deep in nature on a backpacking trip, but I also enjoy making ceramics, knitting, reading fantasy and fiction, playing sports, and spending quality time with friends.
